Moo, Baa, LaLaLa!
by Sandra Boynton
I love this book, and actually Sandra Boynton books in general for toddler speech & language development. The books are very short, which is helpful because toddlers typically have a short attention span. They are also fun, silly, and interactive, which make them so fun to read and very effective to engage your little one in early reading.
Since reading is so important in early language development, these short, fun books are a great way to introduce and get into the habit of daily reading with your little one! If you don't have this book, you can always look it up on youtube to find someone reading it. But, it's always best to actually read the book with your child 'in person' because it allows you to interact with your child, point to things in the book, have your child hold the book, turn pages, and modify the book along the way depending on how your child is responding.Purchase a Copy
Good Night, Gorilla
by Peggy Rathmann
Have fun with the book and feel free to add your own fun words. This book is great for toddlers and little ones with a limited attention span, because there are not a lot of words, but you can add things to it to make it longer, or choose specific words to focus on. On the 'good night' page, it's fun to point to all the good night words on the page, and take turns saying them in funny voices. Have your child wave and say hi and bye to all the animals throughout the book. Have your child put their finger to their lips to say, "shhhh." Have fun with it!!Purchase a Copy
From Head to Toe
by Eric Carle
I love the books by Eric Carle. This is very fitting to highlight one of his books as our book of the month, as he recently passed away at the age of 91. He left such a treasure trove of books and this one is particularly great for toddlers and our little ones who are still in the early phases of learning to talk, because it includes so many opportunities to move around, imitate, and learn new words. When you have a little one with a short attention span, which is common for toddlers, reading time is so much more effective when you can get and keep them engaged with fun books that allow them to move around, and be interactive while reading and looking at the book.Purchase a Copy
